  • The optogenetics methods use light pulses to modulate the activity of genetically engineered light-sensitive neurons or other cells. Even the most straightforward optogenetics experiments require a programmable TTL Pulse Generator to modulate LED or laser diode drivers and create a desired light pulse train.

Some solid-state lasers that cannot be electronically modulated use mechanical light shutters instead. However, LED- or laser-diode-based solutions are preferred to pricey solid-state lasers due to the short lifespan of those shutters.

Our miniature Optogenetics TTL Pulse Generator can be used to output continuous signals or sequences of square pulse trains.  It can also input digital signals from an external device for triggering or synchronization.  The inputs and outputs can be saved into a file for further data analysis (i.e. behavior timestamps).  It is controlled by Doric Neuroscience Studio software and connects to a computer with a USB cable and to external devices with BNC cables.

Any TTL pulse generator channel can be assigned to a LED driver or used as a trigger for other channels.

Example: Four-channel pulse generator (OTPG4) can control the modulation of two LED drivers with channels 1 and 2 while channels 3 and 4 are used as inputs for respective triggers.

If your application requires control of the device with another software, we can provide the API to control from Python, or C++, please contact our technical support for more details.
